Nov 11th Write-up and Christmas Party Announcement (With Poll)!

Header Image Source: https://basykail.deviantart.com/art/The-Christmas-Tour-510397513

Yesterday’s meet took place at the Orange Tree bar in Nottingham and with a peak turnout of 12 people, we had a great time! The staff were friendly, accommodating and the food was delicious. We had plenty of space and overall the meet went pretty well.

I’m going to keep the summary brief, because at the approach to Christmas, we now need to discuss the December/Christmas meet-up. We’d like to have this at the Orange Tree again, except this time with the private room. As a result, we will be holding the poll early and it will only last a week, rather than the usual 2. This gives us time to book in advance.

Please state your availability in the poll below. The most popular date we will try to book the private room for. Please be aware that the private room is £50 for the day, so we need an idea of how many will be coming. we’d like to split the cost of this room between all attendees. With 10 attendees, that’s £5 each. For more than 10, we can go even less.

This poll closes on 11/20/2017 Monday at 1 AM.

Trottinghamshire Bonfire Night Mini-Meetup @ Forest Recreation Ground

On the suggestion of one of our members we are running a Bonfire Night Meetup like last year, but a shorter mini-meetup as it is a bit last minute. We are still running the normal meetup.

We will be meeting at 18:40 outside the Gates at Vivian Court, and then head over to the Forest Recreation Ground at 19:00. This is because it’s less likely to be crowded there than at Forest Recreation Ground.

There are two fireworks displays at 19:15 and 21:00 (the earlier display being a smaller one). The lighting of the biggest bonfire in the East Midlands will be at 19:45.

Also Don’t forget to wear suitable clothing for a cold and damp November evening, and feel free to contact me via Telegram or Discord Server if there is any confusion about the details of the mini-meetup.

Nottingham’s best loved FREE Fireworks display is back at the Forest Recreation Ground.

11th of November Trottinghamshire Meetup

This month’s Trottinghamshire Brony meet-up is hosted at The Orange Tree pub on Shakespeare Street in Nottingham. For anyone unsure of the location, between 11:00 and 12:00 we will be meeting at the Lion statues in Old Market Square, and then at 12:00 we will begin moving up to The Orange Tree, which is where we will spend the remainder of the meet.

The change of venue is due to there being a private room that can be booked at The Orange Tree, and we’d like to get peoples’ thoughts on the location. We have not booked the private room on this occasion, as this is just a test run.

The Orange Tree also offers adequate table space for the people who enjoy playing card games during these meets. So people can still play TSSSF and MLP CCG at the meetup.

It is also close to the Victoria Shopping Centre, so if anyone wants to do some Christmas shopping during the meet, you won’t have far to look.

Trottinghamshire MLP Movie Meetup

We are happy to announce that there will be a Nottingham meetup for The My Little Pony Movie taking place on the 28th of October 2017. The plan is to meet outside the Broadway Cinema at 11:30 AM with plans to head inside to find seats at around 12:00 PM. This should give people enough time to arrive at the cinema and to get tickets and snacks.

After the movie, we will be heading to the Lloyds No. 1 Bar for food and drinks and a post-movie meet.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • You are responsible for buying your own ticket. I would advise you all to buy a ticket online before coming to the meetup. Tickets can bought at this website. It is recommended that you do this well in advance to ensure you get the seat you want!
  • Please read this Equestria Daily movie theatre etiquette guide before attending. We do public meets all the time and I’m sure none of you will show us up, however to avoid being the stereotypical bunch of “those guys,” please humour us and give this a quick read. We want everyone attending to enjoy the movie, not just the members of the group.
  • We are meeting at outside the Broadway Cinema on the 28th of October 2017 at 11:30 AM (For the 12:30 PM viewing) and going inside at 12:00 PM.
  • Please let us know if you can make it by saying are attending on the event page on Facebook, or sending a message on the Telegram or Discord Chanel.

Poll For Next Meetup Date (Early For Once)

I have decided to release the poll for the next meetup early for once, to give people some more time to plan for the next the meetup. This poll will close on the 9th of October at 01:00. this should give people plenty of time to get their vote in.

This time around, the plan is to hang around at the [ALT] Gaming Lounge, to catch up with members of the group, and play games. The ALT bar serves delicious food and drinks and they have been accommodating enough to treat us most excellently during our meet-up events, so if you can, please do buy things at the bar.

Once the poll is closed, the meet date will be decided based on which day is most popular. If the most popular date is one of the November dates, we will be hosting both the November meet and whatever the runner up in October is. This is because there is only two weekends that the Trottinghamshire Event organisers can run a October meetup.

July the 29th Trottinghamshire Bronies Picnic/Meetup

After some hiccups the date of the next meetup, has now been decided.  The date  of the next meetup is the 29th of July. This time around, the plan is to go to The Arboretum park, just off the University of Nottingham central campus for a picnic – weather permitting. This park is a fairly decent size, so we should be able to find a space to hold the meetup.

Just in case the weather is poor, we will start the meetup at the [ALT] Gaming Lounge about 12 PM, and then go the Arboretum about 1 PM. Facebook and Discord updates will be provided throughout the day so that if anyone is joining us after we have left the [ALT] Lounge, they will be able to track us down.

Feel free bring your own food and snacks, however put any food in a backpack you will be taking to Arboretum, if you will be meeting us at the [ALT] Gaming Lounge. If you are meeting us at the Arboretum, just wait at the entrance closest to Nottingham Trent University

If the weather is poor, we will just hang around the [ALT] Gaming Lounge, catch up, and play games (including card games).

The ALT bar serves delicious food and drinks and they have been accommodating enough to treat us most excellently during our meet-up events, so if you can, please do buy things at the bar.

Facebook and Discord updates will be provided throughout the day so that if anyone is joining us after we have left the [ALT] Lounge, they will be able to track us down.

If the weather is poor, we will just hang around the [ALT] Gaming Lounge, catch up, and play games (including card games).

This poll would normally have more dates on, however most of the people running the group are going to BronyCon in August so can not run a meetup that month.

The poll is now closed. The Winning date is the July the 29th.

June 10th 2017 – Fighting is Magic Tournament – Write Up

The June 10th meet-up was another great success for the Trottingham Bronies group, with 16 people in attendance, the number of people joining us at [ALT] was above average. Not only was the meet-up good in terms of attendees, but it was also the first time that the organisation team in the Trottinghamshire Bronies community tried their hand at organising a gaming tournament for the fan-made My Little Pony game: Fighting is Magic.

With the help of [ALT], who offered a generous discount on the rental of the computer stations for the day, we managed to pull off a fully fledged tournament with 8 entrants and 7 rounds of 4 bouts.

While the beginning of the day was a bit rocky for organisation, as we didn’t really have any idea how many people would be entering the tournament, and this being our first time at this sort of thing, we did have to pull in some help from the [ALT] staff to set something up so that everyone would fight against everyone. In future, we will want to look at having people enter the tournament before the day, just to ensure we can focus on managing the layout of the matches. Despite this, we are very pleased with how it went and hope to keep on the good side of [ALT] so that we can continue doing things like this in the future.

A special congratulations to Sean Leedell for winning our tournament in a flawless 7 round win streak!

After the Tournament had drawn to a close, the winner announced and all of the computers closed down, we retreated back to the main area of the lounge to engage in conversation, card games, video games and most importantly: Food and drink!

It was at this point that the meet was beginning to wind down. We spent a couple more hours talking and playing together before finally deciding to call the meet to a close and take the usual group photo before we all went our separate ways for another month.

We had a great time doing the Fighting is Magic gaming tournament at [ALT], and while we won’t be doing it every month, we are going to continue to think of fun ways to include gaming and My Little Pony in our outings to the [ALT] bar. Perhaps with another fighting is magic tournament, but we may also look into organising an event to play Legends of Equestria or other fan created pony games. Provided, of course, that [ALT] are happy for us to put it on their computers.

The next meetup we are aiming to organise a picnic at the Arboretum Park, near the University of Nottingham campus. This is, of course, weather permitting. Please note that for the picnic, food would have to be brought along (or bought in town) as we wouldn’t be providing it. If you want to bring along any cakes or sweet treats to share though, you are more than welcome to!

For now though, Trottingham Bronies – Signing off!
